Grinding is the fastest, cleanest way to erase a stump — no backhoe trenches, no weeks-long scars on the lawn. We handle single-stump jobs and full lot clears across the Miami Valley, with flat quotes and honest timelines.
A stump grinder is a rotating carbide-toothed wheel that chews through stump wood — not a digger. Instead of tearing out roots and leaving a crater, the machine turns the stump and flare into mulch-like chips. Most residential jobs finish in under an hour once we're on site.
We grind 6–12 inches below grade, which is well below where you'd plant grass or a shallow fence post. If your project needs more depth — say, for a deck footing or patio base — tell us on the call and we'll quote accordingly.
Every stump is a little different, but four things drive almost every quote:
We arrive with the grinder, confirm underground utilities have been marked (call 8-1-1 if we haven't already), and walk the site with you. Tarps go down for nearby mulch beds or gravel. We grind, rake, and sweep the immediate work area. If you've asked for chip haul-away, we load out and leave the spot ready for topsoil and seed.
Yes — once the chips are removed or mixed out, topsoil goes in and seed or sod can go right on top. For best results, give the area a few weeks to settle and add a thin layer of compost before seeding. We're happy to talk through the finish if landscaping is your next step.
Narrow gates, backyard-only access, rocky spots, stumps near foundations — that's normal work for us. Send a photo of the obstacle with your quote request and we'll tell you straight up whether it fits our equipment.
Standard grind is 6–12 inches below grade. Deeper on request if your project needs it.
Visible surface roots, yes. Deep underground laterals usually stay — they rot out naturally over a few seasons.
Yes. Per-stump pricing drops when we're already on-site and set up.
Not always. If we can access the stump, mark utilities, and have a clear scope in writing, many jobs run without you there.
